Description
Document found in cornerstone of Athenaeum building on August 3, 1891. A note with the document reads, "The original, crumpled up in a leaden box (4" x 2") was found in the S.E. corner of the stone foundation of the old Athenaeum. August 3, 1891."
The original document is severely faded and damaged from its past poor storage conditions. When it was found in 1891, a transcription of the text was produced by hand. Researchers can find it linked at the bottom of this page.
