Portrait of Albert J. Dierckes, SJ, who served as president of Xavier University from 1901-1908. Photograph dated approximately 1908.

Biographical Information

Twentieth Jesuit president Rev. Albert A. Dierckes was born November 1, 1858 in Ludlow, Kentucky. After graduation from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio (then known as St. Xavier College)in 1878 he entered the Society of Jesus at Florissant, Missouri. He was ordained at Woodstock, Maryland June 30, 1892. Except for his term as president of Xavier University, Father Dierckes primarily served as a missionary. He died October 8, 1914, in Superior, Wisconsin while beginning a new college and serving as pastor of St. Patrick Church.
