Portrait of Isidore J. Boudreaux, SJ, who served as president of Xavier University from 1853-1856. Photograph dated approximately 1856.
Biographical Information
Fifth Jesuit president Rev. Isidore J. Boudreaux was born September 11, 1817 at Thibodaux, Louisiana. He studied at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri and entered the Society of Jesus at Florissant, Missouri July 17, 1836. After his term at Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio (then known as St. Xavier College) he served as master of novices at Florissant, Missouri for over twenty years. During the last few years of his life he served as spiritual father at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He died February 8, 1885 while on a visit to Chicago, Illinois.
