Description
Handwritten ledger containing student account information for tuition and board, 1847-1852, organized alphabetically by last name. The majority of the boarding students represented in this account book came from southern states and the accounts are generally with their guardian or parent. News clippings of transportation lines (railroads and steamboats) are found toward the end of the volume pasted over accounts. The early records of St. Xavier College (Cincinnati, Ohio) were divided among Xavier University and St. Xavier High School over the course of institutional changes such as the University's move to Avondale in 1919 and the High School's move to its current campus in 1960. The account books in this collection were kept in Xavier University's archives.
