Abstract
Poster Abstract
At least 50% of American adults experience trauma, and there are potential life-long effects that can cause patients to experience re-traumatization in a critical care environment (Schroeder, 2021). A review of academic, peer-reviewed literature is limited because of the lack of research on Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) in critical care settings. However, other professions have successfully implemented a four-point TIC model, such as dentistry and social work. This proposed project aims to develop and provide an educational offering regarding TIC in critical care nursing hospital on-boarding and yearly continuing education. The proposed TIC educational offering will begin with an ARTIC-style pre-survey of existing staff members to assess current attitudes/ knowledge on TIC before education is implemented. A post-TIC education survey will also be provided to track TIC learning and tailor future classes to serve nurses' education needs better. This proposed project aims to provide nurses working in critical care settings with TIC education opportunities to improve nurse-patient relationships and patient outcomes.
