Abstract

This research project examines the satisfaction levels of clients that were affected by homicidal violence in the city of Cincinnati during the 2022 calendar year. Focusing on services provided by the Victims’ Assistance Liaison Unit (VALU), a supporting social service agency under the Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit, the study employs a satisfaction survey crafted by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to evaluate the scope of services provided by victim support agencies throughout the state. This survey evaluates services provided by the VALU and takes note of client experiences with the agency. The goal is to identify strengths and areas for improvement in the provision of victim support services.

This study collected data through telephone interviews where participants voluntarily shared their experiences with VALU. This study seeks to gain insights that are valuable to understanding client experiences in Cincinnati, however any findings must be interpreted with caution when considering their broader implications.

The study aims to provide recommendations for refining service provision to enhance overall client experiences. By addressing identified areas for improvement, VALU can better support this vulnerable population and contribute more effectively to clients' healing journeys. The research highlights the importance of understanding client perspectives in shaping effective support services for those coping with violent loss. This project is ultimately aiming to improve outcomes for individuals navigating the aftermath of violent loss.
