Abstract
Abstract: Sometimes when we are in a unfamiliar place we tend to get lost. If we are lucky we may have a cell phone or a map nearby to guide us to our destination. But imagine if you did not have a cell phone or a map? How would you get to your destination? What make things complicated is that you speak a language that is different from most of the people around you. How would you get to where you are going without people being able to understand your language or your writing? My research will discuss why foreign language is important in classrooms and how it can improve the academic performance of students. I choose this topic because I teach in a classroom where I have 25 Students and 21 of those students are ELL (English Language Learners) students. My goal is to explain how acquiring a foreign language can help in the areas of academics, communication, self-confidence, empathy and growth. To prove that it is definitely needed in classrooms, I collected survey data from educators and non educators to have a better understanding of importance of foreign language learning.
