Abstract
The research being conducted is on Maternal Mortality rates of African American Women. America has alarming maternal mortality, but beyond that African American women are leading the charts with triple the death rates compared to white women. Speculation on why African American women have the highest death rates has varied, but in this study, the focus is on Obamacare and how state expansion of it has affected the maternal mortality rates of African American women. Variables such as level of education, prenatal care, state, and income will be factored in to assess whether the implementation of Obamacare has increased or decreased the maternal mortality rates of African American women. Data for this research is pulled from two time periods, 2010 which was a few years before Obamacare was expanded, and 2020 which was a few years after Obamacare was expanded.
