Abstract
The Cincinnati streetcar (Cincinnati Bell Connector) has been operating since September of 2016 and has been free to the public since 2020. There has been a discussion about possibly expanding the streetcar route. Amidst the resurgence of interest in the streetcar and its expansion, the effectiveness of the Cincinnati streetcar project in fulfilling the objectives outlined in its feasibility studies needs to be explored.
Determining the success requires an analysis of key variables of ridership numbers, budget, crime rate, and commercial and residential development around the streetcar route.
This project uses data from the Cincinnati Budget Office, a UC feasibility study, feasibility study conducted by HDR engineers, and Cincy Insights ridership data to analyze if the streetcar was successful in meeting the goals put forth in the feasibility study. This type of analysis can be used to determine if the streetcar expansion is advisable. The hypothesis of this project is that the benefits of the Cincinnati streetcar outweigh the cost.
