Abstract
This project examines the impacts that gentrification has on Over-the-Rhine compared to the city of Cincinnati from 2010-2020. By statistically analyzing different variables that gentrification impacts, I discover if gentrification has more benefits or losses for a community. The period I analyzed included the most amount of information and sometime after the initial Cincinnati riots of 2001 and up to the last census which includes some aspects of COVID. I use two major research strategies: (1) a quantitative analysis of the changes in variables that usually relate to gentrification and (2) the historical aspects of what is going on in the city and what has happened in Over-the-Rhine to determine what I use and how I use it. Data has been collected from newspapers, scholarly articles, interviews, census information, and published reports. This project seeks to find which side is statistically more accurate rather than having full blown public opinion. This is due to the fact that some people view gentrification as evil and bad for a neighborhood socially and others view it as essential for economic growth.
