Abstract
This roundtable will explore contemporary school shooting incidents in primary and secondary schools, as well as in institutions of higher education. Attention will be given to characteristics of school shooters, the criminal opportunity structure surrounding these active shooter incidents, and target hardening techniques. In doing so, the A.L.i.C.E. program will be thoroughly examined. Created by Response Options, the A.L.i.C.E. program seeks to enhance traditional lockdown or securing-in-place procedures with techniques and options that are effective in real situations. Information about school shooters, recent case studies, useful strategies and techniques, and demonstrations will be covered.
